The original Victorian house The Limes stood in several acres of grounds, and included a tennis court, several outbuildings and a paddock.

In the mid 1970s the paddock was sold and a new primary school was built.  The original Victorian school is opposite the Limes and was converted to residential use in the 1980s.

The last residents of the Limes were the Donovans.  After the death of Mrs Donovan the house was sold to developers under strict conditions that the many trees subject to Tree Preservation Orders were properly maintained.  This resulted in the spacious site plan, which contains significantly less homes than the typical minimum density of a site of this size.

At the time The Limes was developed, the Donovan family (with others) made a generous contribution to enable the construction of the stone wall which now surrounds the graveyard and allotments.
